Defensive lineman remains sidelined Brad Biggs
The New York Giants believe they have gotten to the bottom of the nagging calf injury that has sidelined versatile defensive lineman Chris Canty, one of their prized free-agent acquisitions.
Canty underwent a procedure designed to stop bleeding in his calf that was preventing the strain from healing, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger.
Canty, who has played in just one game this season, will not play Sunday at Oakland, and according to he report he could miss at least one additional game as he heals. He had been sidelined through much of training camp and the preseason with a hamstring injury, but played in the opener against Washington before injuring the calf muscle the following week in preparation for the Week 2 trip to Dallas.
The Giants have given no indication that injured reserve is a possible destination for Canty, and quite frankly after some of the injuries they already suffered on the line, they’re going to need him.
That is one of the risks run by players when they miss time with muscle injuries. Their body isn’t quite right when they return, and there’s an increased chance they will injure something else. That’s not to say Canty’s hamstring pull led to the calf injury, but it’s difficult to keep the body in proper football shape will rehabilitating.

He's a beastly guy though, and hopefully the Bears saw something in him that Tampa hasn't been able to get the most out of it. Not thrilled to lose the pick though.
