David Carr has found a backup quarterback situation that might make it easier for him to get on the field.

The quarterback has agreed to terms on a contract with the San Francisco 49ers, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, getting him out of the shadow of Eli Manning with the Giants.

Carr picked the 49ers even though he was drawing interest from Arizona and Cleveland.

The Giants will work out ex-Indianapolis backup Jim Sorgi on Monday and Vacchiano reports the team also has interest in Mark Brunell and Jeff Garcia.

I liked what I saw from Carr here in NJ, watching him play w/ Giants. As a 49ers fan, I can tell this is strictly a football move. It really puts Shaun Hill in a bad place because the 49ers have shown the desire to develop Nate Davis (3rd string QB). Making Hill the QB w/ the weakest arm of the bunch. I don't think he will make it thru camp, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut beforehand. I liked Shaun Hill, but from a football standpoint, I support this move. Carr is a better back-up than Hill right now, younger more atheltic, and can make the deep throw. And Davis won't be ready for another year or two.

Carr will have better odds starting in SF too. We'll see what happens though.

Who would've thought that Harrington would be out of the league by now & Carr would fighting for 2nd string for the past 3-4 years or so?

I wouldn't be surprised if Carr beats out Smith this spring... I like the move to get Carr but still not the next level QB. If they get Trent Williams OT and CJ Spiller for punt returns and as a Gore backup they'll be big time solid. Then draft other offensive players later on.

Carrying a second kicker can be tricky for teams because it costs them depth elsewhere. But if a team has a guy with a strong leg who consistently will bang kickoffs into the end zone, it can be worthwhile.
