Report: Chiefs to fire Crennel, not Pioli

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kansas City Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel is out after just one-plus seasons in that role.

The report went on to say that general manager Scott Pioli will remain in his position, at least for now.

The Chiefs have not made any comments regarding the job status of Crennel or Pioli.

The team was a complete mess this season, as the Chiefs were expected to contend in the AFC West, but instead slumped to a 2-14 record and now hold the first pick in the NFL Draft next April.

Crennel went 2-1 as an interim coach last year after Todd Haley was fired, but the Kansas City offense was awful this year with poor quarterback play from both Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn.

The team was also rocked by the tragic murder-suicide involving linebacker Jovan Belcher in what turned out to be the worst and most horrific season in the franchise's 53-year history.
