From Adam Schefter of ESPN.com:
APBrad Childress
A contract extension for Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress that many thought would be done during the team's recent bye week will be done soon, according to a source close to the situation.
Childress has one more year on his contract after this season. He has helped bring quarterback Brett Favre out of retirement and lead the Vikings to an 8-1 record that is good enough for first place in the NFC North.
Since he arrived in Minnesota in 2006, Childress has helped improve the Vikings' win totals in each of his seasons there from six in 2006, to eight in 2007, to 10 last season, to the eight that Minnesota now has after nine games.
Minnesota is in the running for home-field advantage in the playoffs, Childress should be in the running for the NFL Coach of the Year, and he soon will be rewarded for it.
