Report: Cowboys will be in market for a corner in free agency

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to be in the market for a cornerback when free agency opens.

Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports that the team will pursue Kansas City’s Brandon Carr and Tennessee’s Cortland Finnegan, assuming both are on the free market. Some believe Carr could be retained by the Chiefs.

The Cowboys are looking for upgrades in the secondary and adding a top-tier player could allow them to release former first-round draft pick Terence Newman, a move that would save $6 million in salary-cap space.

Dallas also has Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins, who is entering the final year of his contract.

Surely, Jerry Jones will be interested in making a splash. We’ll find out starting March 13.
