Karlos Dansby said Friday afternoon that he planned on taking his time and checking out all of his options.

Just a few hours later, he's made his decision.

The six-year veteran out of Auburn has agreed to a monster five-year deal worth $43 million, according to a tweet from Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

The deal contains a whopping $22 million in guaranteed money.

The Miami Dolphins were considered to be the front-runners in the race for Dansby since the free agent market opened early Friday morning. The team made it clear in recent weeks that they were looking for a 3-4 inside linebacker to fit their scheme and improve their defense--and Dansby was the best option on the board.

The 6’4”, 250-pound Dansby recorded 109 tackles (89 solo) with one interception and one forced fumble for Arizona in 2009. Over the last two seasons, he’s started all 32 regular season games for the Cardinals.

The New York Giants, as well as the Cardinals, were rumored to be in the hunt for the veteran linebacker’s services as well.

But in the end, the Dolphins got their man—at a very expensive price.

22 million guaranteed? Sure he's young but that's a lot of money for a MLB in a 3-4, one of the least crucial roles in a 3-4.

I would agree that NT is probably the most critical position in a 3-4 defense, but you never can minimize the importance of a solid MLB.

Dansby is a playmaker in the middle with over 400 solo tackles, 25.5 sacks and 10 career interceptions. He has the size at 6'4, 250 lbs and he 28 years old.

This is a very nice signing by the Dolphins and an immediate upgrade over what they had in the middle.

Almost every team cross blitzes from a 3-4 these days, see also the Super Bowl play that resulted in the long interception TD to seal it. You need guys like Dansby at inside linebacker to do it well.

A good player but at an awful high price. So far neither Pace or Smith has lived up to the $$$ and I think Dansby will have a tough time as well. Amazed a guy with zero probowls gets that type of coin...

The Phins are poised to play funnel football, the same way the Giants did when Parcells and Bill B coached there. The center pin holding it together just got stronger. Get big players to harden the edge, then add tough finishers in the middle to wrap it up when the play gets forced their way.

Wow, 36 hours into the brand new NFL season, and the Cardinals are already the substantial losers. What the hell is this team thinking? I hope Card fans enjoyed their brief moment in the spotlight, because it looks like Zona is going to return to being the NFC's punching bag.

Moronic franchise.

Well, I hope this works out well. Since Parcells took over in Miami there haven't been any free agent signings I've liked until now. Let's hope they can land the right players in the upcoming draft to get back to the playoffs. It's anybody's guess as to what they'll do but I think the move at 12 will be OLB unless McClain is there. They MUST find a solid NT though. It will be interesting to see how they handle the WR issue. This draft is deep at the safety position so I'm sure they'll get who they need (I hope it's Major Wright) to replace Wilson unless they believe in Clemons.
