Report: Federal probation officer investigating Vick incident

The federal probation officer for Michael Vick, who is based in Norfolk, Va., is investigating last week’s shooting at a Virginia Beach night spot following the quarterback’s 30th birthday bash.

According to Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Daily News, the feds are looking into the matter and now police are not ruling out Vick either in the shooting of Quanis Phillips, who was a co-defendant in Vick’s federal dogfignhting trial. Neither adds up to any good right now for Vick even after his lawyer Larry Woodward maintained that Vick was long gone before a shooting outside Guadalajara.

“Right now, we don't really have a title for (Vick)," police spokesman Adam Bernstein told Hayes.

That’s a sharp departure from last Friday when police said Vick was of “no interest” to them in the investigation. The restaurant has provided video surveillance and a spokesman for Guadalajara said that Vick and his entourage left only three minutes before Phillips was struck in the leg by a bullet in the parking lot. There were initial reports of a dispute between Vick and Phillips inside the establishment. Police confirmed they now possess a surveillance video.

“We didn't know anything (last Friday about the shooting)”, Bernstein said. “Since then, we have viewed this video. And more people have come forward, giving information.”

Perhaps soon we will find out if the information Vick has been providing to police has been accurate – or of he has lied to investigators. There is no doubt the NFL will be keeping a close eye on this because even if Vick did not violate his federal probation, there is a possibility he violated his reinstatement agreement with commissioner Roger Goodell.
