A report that Miami Dolphins quarterback David Garrard is out with a knee injury has surfaced from an unusual source - Chicago.
Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Garrard will undergo a minor procedure. Jensen's work is solid, but it is just unusual that the news came from so far away, rather than a reporter more closely tied to the Dolphins or a national outlet.
UPDATE: Multiple outlets now confirm that Garrard does indeed have a knee injury and will need to have it scoped, leaving his availability for the start of the regular season in question.
The big news in this is that it shakes up the Dolphins depth chart temporarily. Garrard was placed atop that depth chart recently with Matt Moore second and rookie first-round pick Ryan Tannehill third.
If nothing else, perhaps the mystery of Garrard's sudden injury and how it occurred should be solved on an upcoming episode of "Hard Knocks."
