Report: Giants shutting down David Wilson

When Giants running back David Wilson re-injured his neck a week ago, it was deemed that it would be tough for him to return for the 2014 season.

That thought has become a reality. According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, Giants team doctors will shut down Wilson for the remainder of the season.

This setback occurred after Wilson had to have offseason neck fusion surgery to repair an injury sustained during the 2013 season. It's a tough blow for the young runner, who was a first-round pick in 2012.

Without Wilson, rookie running back Andre Williams likely assumes the No. 2 role on offense. Williams had a solid preseason opener against Buffalo on Sunday, running for 48 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
