The Detroit Lions have been kicking the tires on some reserve cornerbacks and now they’ve potentially found one that can start for them.

They will ship their sixth-round draft pick to the Atlanta Falcons and the clubs will swap picks in the fifth round in order to acquire veteran Chris Houston.

Atlanta no longer had a need for Houston after signing Dunta Robinson to a big deal. Robinson and Brian Williams are projected to be the starters. Houston was a starter for three seasons in Atlanta. He has three career interceptions. The Lions have a need. They released Phillip Buchanon and Anthony Henry and Will James are exiting in free agency.

Carrying a second kicker can be tricky for teams because it costs them depth elsewhere. But if a team has a guy with a strong leg who consistently will bang kickoffs into the end zone, it can be worthwhile.
