Star cornerback set to make $6 million this season. Terry McCormick
As the New York Jets begin the process of retooling their roster, they are considering trading what is probably the best player on their roster, cornerback Darrelle Revis, per Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.
Revis missed most of 2012 with a torn ACL, and is scheduled to make $6 million this season between base and bonuses.
The Jets have salary cap issues, and might not want to tie up loads of money in one player, even if he is as good as Revis, a player many consider the NFL's best cornerback when healthy. Revis' contract voids after the 2014 season, and he has already held out twice in his Jets career, meaning he will likely want big money after the '14 season.
If the Jets trade Revis, he would likely fetch quite a bit in return in terms of draft picks and players, which would allow new general manager John Idzik to restock the roster.
