Report: Jets will keep Mark Sanchez at least into preseason

The franchise is not dumping the Sanchize, not yet any way.

Although the New York Jets drafted Geno Smith in the second round Friday night that does not mean they are kicking Mark Sanchez to the curb.

Bob Glauber of Newsday reports that the club is expected to at least keep Sanchez into the preseason and allow him to compete for the starting job. Really, it’s the only decision for the team to make unless they deem him to be an impediment to development. That is because the team owes Sanchez $8.25 million this season and the Jets are going to have to fork over that cash whether he plays for them or is cut. Glauber reports Sanchez is expected to show up at the team’s facility for the voluntary offseason workout on Monday.

Some believe it will take Smith time to adapt to the NFL. If that is the case, the Jets will need somebody to start and the best man for the job might just be Sanchez. That right there is one major reason why coach Rex Ryan is in trouble this coming season.
