Arizona Cardinals general manager Rod Graves told his team Web site that discussions were ongoing with Joey Porter about a potential deal to bring the pass rusher to the desert.
Now, the Cardinals are going to have competition for his services. The Washington Redskins, who are fast moving to a 3-4 defense with new coordinator Jim Haslett, will bring Porter in for a free-agent visit on Thursday, according to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network.
Porter is a talented pass rusher and could be paired with emerging young star Brian Orakpo to give the Redskins a pair of outside threats. The Redskins have been quiet so far during free agency – silent by their standards – with most of the focus going to the ravaged offensive line. Whether or not they are serious about Porter or are a vehicle to drive up his price with the Cardinals remains to be seen, but the addition would make sense.
