As day two of free agency kicks into full gear, we can all look forward to another 24-span of reports about flights, visits, physicals, and contracts.

The latest intriguing piece of intel comes to us from a website called JagNation.com, which is reporting that free agent defensive end Aaron Kampman flew into Jacksonville last night to meet with the Jaguars.

The 6’4”, 260-pound defensive end from Iowa is arguably the biggest free agent left on the board, now that Julius Peppers, Antrel Rolle, Karlos Dansby, Chester Taylor and Dunta Robinson have all signed contracts. There are several teams that have been rumored to be in the Kampman sweepstakes, including the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks.

The Jaguars interest in the defensive end should come as no surprise to anyone who actually watched the team last season. Jacksonville was awful getting after the passer in 2009, ranking dead-last in the NFL in sacks (14) and 27th in passing defense (235.9 yds/gm).

The team definitely has a need for a guy like Kampman, who racked up 37 sacks in 47 starts from 2006-2008. The downside is he’s coming off a season-ending knee injury.

And keep this fact in mind:  Kampman went to the same high school (Aplington-Parkersburg H.S.) in Parkersburg, Iowa as current Jaguars center Brad Meester.

Casey Weigmann and Jared Devries are also out there on the market, and they too went to A-P High School. They could get all 4 of them on the same team!

Kampman's best days are behind him. There's a reason why the Packers have zero interest in bringing him back. But the rubes who are fans of the team that signs him will treat it like it's a big deal. It's not, kiddies.

Brad,
I have to disagree with you there. He doesn't want to play LB in a 3-4, so the Pack are letting him walk. They have Clay Matthews and Brad Jones, although they will try and improve over Jones this year. He is a natural LE in a 4-3, and is probably the hardest working DE in the league after Jared Allen. I am a Bears fan, and have absolutely no love for the Pack, but after seeing him twice a year for the last several years, I think he is a huge addition, as long as his knee checks out. If he is healthy, you can mark 10-15 sacks down in the book, because he will get it every year by outworking whoever he is playing against.

Brad:
You can't even predict if your mom's gonna make you applesauce tonight, let alone where a pro like Kampman may end up.
Now get on your Wii fit and melt off some of that childhood obesity.

It's going to be tough to see Kampman go, but he definitely doesn't fit into the Packers' 3-4 scheme. I'm just glad that it appears he's not heading to an NFC North team. I was not looking forward to watching him chase Rodgers around twice a year.

One thing I've always enjoyed about the comments on this website is that they are all football related and directly in response to the articles. Keep the childish personal attacks to espn.com. Save NFP for talking about football.

Kampman has lots left to give but until he is fully recovered he probably will be a step slow.
I would think that a guy like him would be looking for a team on an upward trajectory. That isn't exactly the Jags or the Bucs. Philly makes the most sense. Seattle still has lots of open questions

Great move on the part of the Chiefs. Thomas Jones is a dynamo and I know a little boy (my son) who is wild about this running style.
Yes I can, Thomas.

That is good that people can get the credit loans and that opens new possibilities.
