Joins Bradford, Clausen by waiting to throw at his pro day Brad Biggs
Sam Bradford will not be ready to throw at the scouting combine. Jimmy Clausen isn’t prepared to work out for teams. Now, Dan LeFevour has announced he will not throw in Indianapolis.
The Central Michigan quarterback told NFL Draft Bible that he will wait until his pro day to throw but will “be doing (pretty much) everything except throwing at the combine.”
It leaves teams wanting to evaluate the top quarterbacks in the draft with at least a little left to the imagination.
“I will focus solely on throwing at pro day,” LeFevour said. “Just getting focused with that…only having one thing to do on Pro Day and being able to work with my receivers up at school that are coming out. Putting everything I have into that aspect of it.”
LeFevour said his decision was not based on the fact that Bradford and Clausen, considered the top two prospects at the position, will also not throw. LeFevour competed last month at Senior Bowl and has more game tape than just about any other passer in the draft. So NFL teams have a feel for what he can do throwing the ball at this point.
.“As a quarterback you look forward to the whole experience, not just one aspect of it,” LeFevour said of the combine. “You have to be well-rounded enough to handle it all. I’m looking to soak in everything that’s going to come at me.”

i would love to see the buffalo bills get him he would fit in great as there qb than any one else in the draft he is a true cold weather qb
With Bradford and Clausen both have legitimate excuses (injuries) not to throw at the combine, this was a golden opportunity for LeFevour to show he's the No. 3 QB in the draft. The failure to step up, compete, and showcase his skills reeks of a guy content to be a backup QB in the NFL.
I'd agree that this is a mistake, except for the fact that it's a such a common practice for these QB's to not throw. Mark Sanchez's performance last year (I believe he participated fully) is now more the exception than the rule.
Is there some site where we can see which QB's participated in what drills in recent years?

He's not a top 3 guy so it would be considered a mistake to not throw at the combine for him. He and his agents may be thinking we showed you enough of his arm at the Senior Bowl but again I think its a terrible mistake.
He could definitely step up and be the guy that wows you by being one of the guys that shows whether he has gotten better and can be consistent. You go to the combine show you're a competitor and make the best of it.
He's not a top pick and its supposed to be an honor to be invited to the Combine. His invite should be revoked for this.
"He currently holds Mid American Conference records for career completions, attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns, total touchdowns, and total offensive yards. LeFevour is the only player in NCAA history with over 12,000 passing yards and 2,500 rushing yards and currently sits 2nd all time in total offensive yards. He also holds the FBS record for total touchdowns with 150."

He was 69% completions his final season. Accuracy is imperative.
Reminds me of Gannon with the mobility. Second player (other is Vince Young) to throw for 3,000 and run for 1,000 in a season. Teams who plan for mobile passers should add him for quality depth.

I like how you put "second player" when he did that in the same season as VY...
And no, Gannon is not a good comparison... mobility is the only connection. Gannon had a really strong arm but a terribly low release point. Almost sidearm. Lefevour's throw looks almost uncomfortably over the top... I would more compare him to Garcia. Not a huge arm, but accuracy and mobility combined make him effective.
The problem is (and I'm a CMU grad and huge Lefevour fan) he won't run the offense he ran at CMU vs the much faster NFL teams. I really look forward to him in the league though... he's good enough to overcome his shortcomings with his good decision making and calm nature. Hopefully he goes in the third.

the Lions didn’t use just one first-round pick on offense last year. They also turned the first-round pick acquired in the Roy Williams trade into tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Jim Schwartz’s defense was a mess last season.

I think this is a bad idea. The big knock on him as I understand it is his arm is a little weak. This just validates that. He's afraid to show his stuff in front of the big boys. Sometimes you wonder about the advice these guys are getting.
I understand all the concerns about throwing to strange receivers and possibly looking bad, but this is a guy who needs to impress teams that he has an NFL arm.
