Report: Likely down to Seahawks, Vikings for Winfield

The Minnesota Vikings are still in the running to sign cornerback Antoine Winfield but the Seattle Seahawks are in the lead at this point.

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports it looks like Winfield will choose between the two teams and that the Washington Redskins, who Winfield visited, have fallen behind.

Winfield visited Seattle earlier this week. The Vikings have been making an effort to bring back the veteran all along after releasing him to avoid paying a $7.25 million salary this season. Both the Seahawks and the Vikings made the playoffs last season but Seattle looks to be in better position to contend again in 2013.

In Seattle, Winfield would likely fulfill a nickel cornerback role, joining Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner in a talented secondary. The Vikings would likely lean on Winfield to do more if he returned there.
