Veteran center Kevin Mawae, who has taken an increasingly greater role in leadership with the NFL Players Assocation in recent years, has been re-elected as the president of the group, according to Liz Mullen of Sports Business Daily.

Mullen has the task of covering the NFPLA meetings in Maui, and sources have told her that Mawae will be back to serve a two-year term as the leader of the outfit that is embroiled in a labor showdown with owners.

It’s the most critical juncture for the players association in more than two decades, and a work stoppage looms around the corner in 2011. Hopefully, the players can come up with something at their annual meeting that sparks some small breakthrough with owners.
