With Auburn football enduring one of its worst seasons in program history, Tiger fans have been hit with even more bad news.

According to Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports, the football program is being investigated by the NCAA.

Investigators within the governing body have reportedly been looking into possible improprieties involving recruits, players, coaches, reps of the school's athletic interests and third parties. In particular, assistant coaches Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper have been under the watchful eye of the NCAA and both were taken off the recruiting circuit several weeks ago with the probe ongoing.

The NCAA, in particular, has reportedly been investigating the recruitment of 2012 Auburn signee Jovon Robinson, whose academic transcript was forged and who was declared ineligible to play this year at the school. He is not enrolled at Auburn this semester. The NCAA probe is reportedly more widespread than just Robinson, however, but is not believed to involve the 2010 allegations involving Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Cam Newton.

All of this news, of course, comes as the Tigers are preparing for their Iron Bowl matchup with Alabama and as the team limps toward the end of a disastrous 3-8 campaign under embattled head coach Gene Chizik. With this new investigation taking place, Saturday's game against Alabama very well could be Chizik's final game at the school despite winning the BCS national championship just two seasons ago.
