Conversations apparently driving the two sides farther apart. Terry McCormick
Carson Palmer has been in direct contact with Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown, according to Mike Lombardi of NFL.com.
With the NFL trade deadline coming on Tuesday, the Bengals could potentially deal Palmer, who decided to retire rather than play for the Bengals again.
At 3-2 and with rookie QB Andy Dalton doing better than many expected, Brown could accommodate Palmer and perhaps get some additional help for the Bengals in return in the form of players or draft picks.
However, Lombardi says that is not likely to happen, and that talks between Palmer and Brown may be pushing the two sides farther apart.
"I do know this: Carson Palmer has been in direct contact, himself, with Brown," Lombardi said. "Those phone calls have proven to be fruitless. … Each phone conversation they get further and further apart.”
