The St. Louis Rams, perhaps uncertain about their ability to retain the services of safety O.J. Atogwe, will bring in veteran Brodney Pool in for a free-agent visit on Monday, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Pool was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Cleveland Browns after starting there for the previous three seasons. He missed the final five games of 2009, sidelined with a concussion. Pool had a career-high four interceptions before being lost for the season.
Atogwe got the low tender as a restricted free agent because the Rams didn’t want to pay him more than $7 million this season. They could be in jeopardy of losing him as a restricted free agent because the Rams hold only the right of first refusal on a contract offer. If a team loaded an offer sheet with a poison pill, the Rams could have no choice but to lose him.
