Report: Redskins bringing in kickers for tryout with Cundiff struggling
Billy Cundiff saved himself a week ago when he atoned for three early missed with a field goal to life the Washington Redskins to victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He might not be able to kick himself to Week 6, though.
Cundiff missed a 31-yard field goal in Sunday’s 24-17 loss to Atlanta and the Falcons used what little time was remaining in the first half following the miss to rally for a score. Cundiff has now missed four of his last five kicks and while Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said after the loss he wasn’t sure what he was going to do, it is becoming more evident.
At the minimum, the Redskins are going to take a close look at replacement options. The team will work out at least three kickers on Tuesday at Redskins Park, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Olindo Mare, Josh Brown and Kai Forbath are expected to compete. Cundiff was signed by the Redskins a day after being cut loose by the Baltimore Ravens. The Redskins were using Graham Gano as their kicker.
