Wanna get away?

Mike Shanahan does. But the Washington Redskins have not been able to come up with a suitable training camp site as you look ahead to the third summer the coach will direct the team.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Redskins and officials at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., recently determined that the school would bot be a suitable fit for the team’s summer needs.

The team says it continues to explore options. The Redskins have held camp at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va., since 2003. According to Jones, the club has not been in contact with previous training camp spots like Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md.

About half the teams in the NFL prefer to stay home for training camp these days but Shanahan would like to head elsewhere for three or four weeks. Sounds like the Redskins have some work ahead of them if they want to find a location for the summer of 2012.

Maybe they could go to Westminster, MD since the Ravens have abandoned it.
