The New Orleans Saints were in the process of converting Will Smith from a defensive end to an outside linebacker as they switched defenses from a 4-3 to a 3-4 set.
Now, it looks as if their plans to turn Smith in to a pass rushing linebacker have been derailed. ProFootballTalk cites a source that says the knee injury Smith suffered against the Houston Texans on Sunday is season-ending.
If so, it is the second crushing blow the Saints have suffered in preseason this year, as they have already lost Victor Butler for all of 2013.
