But Chase Daniel could still battle for No. 2 job Brad Biggs
The Saints are expected to sign a veteran quarterback, and the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports it is expected to be former Tulane star Patrick Ramsey. But that doesn’t rule Chase Daniel out of having a chance to pin down the No. 2 job behind Drew Brees.
It’s one of the few jobs that appears to be wide open for the Saints right now, one that Mark Brunell occupied a year ago. Daniel, the former Missouri star, was picked up after the Washington Redskins let him go a year ago and spent about half the season on the practice squad and the other half as the No. 3.
It was good training experience for Daniel, who now is battling to keep the backup role.
“My mindset is to go in there and win the No. 2 spot," Daniel told Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune. "I'm just going to go out there and compete and let the cards fall where they may.”
Per Duncan, Daniel looked comfortable in the role in minicamp. But looking comfortable then and handling the offense during the regular season when needed are different stories. Even if or when Ramsey is signed, Daniel will have a chance to win the job. He’ll need to have a strong training camp which will mean picking up where he has left off this spring.
