From ESPN.com:
Pete Carroll has reached agreement with the Seahawks on a deal to be their next head coach, multiple NFL sources confirmed early Saturday morning.
Carroll was fully expected to be introduced by the Seahawks as early as Monday, assuming they comply with the Rooney Rule this weekend.
The hangup could be locating a candidate to interview that would put the Seahawks in compliance with the rule, which requires teams to interview a minority candidate for head-coaching hires.
On Friday, Jim Mora became the first Seahawks coach to be let go after one season.
Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier could agree to interview, but he is unwilling to do so if Carroll has been promised full control of the Seahawks -- and multiple sources say he has.
Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke told Frazier that Carroll definitely does not have Seattle's job.
Believing Leiweke, Frazier will interview for the Seahawks head coach job Saturday morning.
Seattle also contacted the agent for Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, but as of Saturday morning nothing had been set up.
But the bottom line is, Carroll's agreement with Seattle is "100 percent done," one NFL source close to the situation said.
If it is true, Seattle has the fire power in the draft (two #1 picks #5 and #14) to say screw the Rooney Rule this is who we want.
"The hangup could be locating a candidate to interview that would put the Seahawks in compliance with the rule, which requires teams to interview a minority candidate for head-coaching hires."
What a joke. Does anyone still believe the RR does anything but force teams to find a token candidate to interview? Now they are picking their coach THEN interviewing a token candidate.
The reason for the upsurge in minority hiring in the past decade is simple. It's Tony Dungy. He's one of the best coaches of the past twenty years and he's built a great coaching tree. Mike Nowlin, Lovie Smith, Jim Caldwell, and Herm Edwards.
Did someone just refer to Herm Edwards as a great coach?
Interview familiar friend coach Chow, compliance accomplished.
I'm shocked Paul Allen didn't target Cowher over Peety boy. You really mean to tell me Cowher wouldn't have taken that job if offered? 2 of the top 14 draft picks, plus the cash he'll earn from Allen, would've brought him back.
And why is Carrol considered a great catch? He's obviously a great recruiter, but how many times has his team underperformed at USC against lesser talent, especially this year? You don't have that kind of talent advantage in the NFL.

I'll wait until the press conference. ESPN is not terribly reliable, especially Chris Mortenson. Sources close to the situation reported Shanahan's deal with the Chiefs was "100 percent done" last February too.
