The year-long suspension NFL commissioner Roger Goodell handed down to New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton for his role in the team’s bounty program looks like it will remain that way.

There had been a slight buzz that Payton could have a meeting with Goodell before Super Bowl XLVII, which will be held in New Orleans, in order for him to be reinstated early.

That looks unlikely now. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that it is “highly unlikely” Payton will get an early meeting with the commissioner. That means the soonest Payton could apply for reinstatement would be the day after the Super Bowl.

So, the Saints will not be represented this month at the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl by their head coach. At least Payton has a contract worked out for when he does return.
