Packers team president Mark Murphy came out earlier in the week and said he expected better from the team after it lost to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.

They were rare comments of dissatisfaction from the man at the top of the organization, although he also expressed full confidence in general manager Ted Thompson with Green Bay at 4-4, the same record it had at the midway point of last season.

“We need to play better and play the way we’re capable of playing,” Thompson said, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Mark’s been around the game, so he understands that. He’s seen this team, and I think we’re better than what we’ve shown so far.”

Thompson shared his confidence in coach Mike McCarthy and the staff and said he has “faith” things will improve in the second half of the season.

“I think we have good enough players,” Thompson said. “Ultimately, the responsibility is mine. So this is my responsibility when things go bad, but I think we’re a better team. I think our players would say we’re a better team, and I think our coaching staff would say that we’re a better team than how we’ve been functioning the last couple of weeks.

“I think there’s an evolution of teams as you go along. I think we can get better in a number of ways. I think we’re capable of playing a lot better, and I think everybody’s of that opinion. So it’s just important for us to put together a good game and play the way we can.”

The Packers host Dallas on Sunday in an important game. They can’t afford to lose much more ground in the NFC as they eye a potential run at a wild-card berth in the playoffs. Having been swept by Minnesota virtually rules out a run at the NFC North title.

Before you leave, ask Brett to autograph the executive of the year award you "earned".

Shut up, wally. He definitely earned that award in 2007. Since then, he's been unable to put decent O & D lines out there, but that's really it. He's a good GM.

Wally's just mad because of all the beatings he took on the playground for being named Wally.

Of course he must take responsibility. Does that even have to be said?. Further, TT is right, the team is certainly underachieving. Why? Three big causes:
1. Everyone knows about the OL. The talent here was OVERRATED by TT and MM. At least on capable veteran was needed for backup. The Packer's kept three "developmental" players. Only one, Lang, will prove capable of NFL play.
2. SPECIAL TEAMS: At least two games have been lost due to huge mistakes. Penalties, a MM trademark, have also been costly. Short fields for opponents
3. Overall, undisciplined and mistake prone football. It's not pretty.

And when the eight year plan isn't enough, he'll have a ten year plan. Fire all three NOW, before they send this team back to the pre-Wolf years.......

"He's a good GM" MAN, DAN, you need an intervention. Blind faith is why Bart was coach for so long.
If any coach/GM Team isn't a powerhouse in 2 or 3 years, this is what you'll always get. Doesn't mean always in the superbowl but a contender.

Forget about all the Brett Farve bashing or loving. That isn't Thompson's biggest failing. Clearly he has an eye for talent in the college ranks. I believe that the team is truly stocked with some gifted players. That makes it all the more deplorable that we aren't winning. And the responsibility rests solely on Thompson's shoulders.

Thompson is at best a gifted talent scout, he does not have either the self confidence or skill to get out into the free agent market and bring in talent and leadership. The Patriots do it every year, big name free agents don't scare real GM's because they know what they are doing. I will give him Woodson, brilliant move, but after what 5 years I think we are due for another and soon. There is absolutely nothing of valu in being the youngest team in the NFL 3 years running, at some point you need experience and leadership to take a team to the next level. we are very much at risk for loosing leadership that other coaches only dream of in the Donald Drivers and Woodsons of the world. The clock is going to catch up with them even they know it.

Why does Mr. Thompson continue to put up with MM's lame response when asked about the penalties and blocking. The patented "we just need to get a few things cleaned up" is getting more then long in the tooth. It's Ted's job to hold the coach accountable for his failed effort to use a widley successful zone blocking scheem. If it isn't the talent, which both Thompson & McCarthy assure us it is not, then it must be the teachers and the architect of the scheme.
