Osi Umenyiora will reportedly sign with the Atlanta Falcons in the next day or two.
That will give the Falcons a reasonable replacement for John Abraham, who was let go earlier this offseason, but doesn’t yet solve the team’s need to upgrade the pass rush across the board. Pro Football Talk reported that Umenyiora will make it official today or Monday.
Umenyiora, who won two Super Bowl rings with the New York Giants, was also pursued by the Miami Dolphins. The Falcons are in a better position to compete right now and had a true need. It sounded like Umenyiora, 31, was heading to Atlanta when he made an appearance on a radio show there and talked about winning with the Falcons.
There are still veteran pass rushers on the market, including Abraham, Dwight Freeney and Elvis Dumervil.
