The Minnesota Vikings finally got around to removing Fred Pagac from the role of defensive coordinator after they started the search process for a new one with interviews while he still held the title.

But it doesn’t appear that the team has a clear plan in place quite yet to replace Pagac, who could remain as the team’s linebackers coach, a role he’s excelled at previously. As Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports, that raises intrigue when it comes to the future of Mike Singletary, a teammate in his playing days of head coach Leslie Frazier.

Singletary served as the team’s linebackers coach this past season. Reports have already circulated that there are factions of the organization who are not happy with Singletary’s work a year after he was ousted as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Fowler reports that Pagac had the coordinator title removed from him on Friday, but was offered a job as linebackers coach. Unless plans are in the mix to promote Singletary to defensive coordinator – that seems unlikely – he could he headed out unless Minnesota can come up with a new position for him.

Of course, Pagac could choose to bolt himself. The Vikings have interviewed Raheem Morris and Mel Tucker for the coordinator job. It’s likely most of the questions will not be answered until the team has a new coordinator in place. Surely, the Vikings would like to complete that process this week.
