Report: Vikings inform Christian Ponder he is starter

Leslie Frazier said he would announce who was starting at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday.

He’ll make it official then, but the news is already out. Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that Frazier has informed those involved and that Christian Ponder, the first-round draft pick from Florida State, will start Sunday against the undefeated Green Bay Packers.

That means Donovan McNabb is out of a starting job after he put up solid passing statistics in a 39-10 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but the offense showed no rhythm.

At 1-5, the Vikings are going nowhere and it’s time to begin developing the passer of the future. It just makes you wonder why the team pursued McNabb in the first place. Minnesota has seen the success Cam Newton has had for the Carolina Panthers. On-the-job training for Ponder is possible. It’s time.
