Former NFL defensive lineman Warren Sapp is the subject of questions from Miami Beach police investigating a domestic violence case, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting.

Per the report, the details regarding the incident weren't out at this point because detectives are still looking into the matter and conducting interviews.

"He's being questioned in reference to a domestic battery," said Sgt. Juan Sanchez Sanchez, a spokesman for the Miami Beach police department. "No one has been arrested yet."

Sapp is not appearing on the league-owned NFL Network today because of the incident.

Contrary to the statement from Sanchez, the NFL is saying Sapp was arrested by Miami Beach police.

Here's their statement via the CBS affiliate in Miami:

"We were made aware this afternoon of the arrest of Warren Sapp by the Miami Police Department. In light of these circumstances, Warren Sapp will not appear on NFL Network while we review the matter."

UPDATE: CBS is now reporting, citing the Miami Beach police spokesman, that Sapp has been arrested on a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery.

UPDATE II: The Miami Beach police department has issued a release confirming that Sapp has been charged.

UPDATE III: According to the arrest affidavit, the victim had a swollen knee and bruises on her neck.

Per reports, she told detectives she was partying with Sapp before asking for his room key when she got tired.

Sapp reportedly woke up the victim later and they began to argue.

Then, the woman told investigators Sapp choked her, pushed her down, grabbed her by the shirt and neck and threw her down again.

In his defense, Sapp told police that he allowed the woman to stay in his room before asking her to leave. He said that the woman fell on her leg when he tried to help her get off a couch.

Sapp was investigated Saturday for alleged incidents at the Surfcomber Hotel on Collins Avenue.

Police said that Sapp was expected to be transffered to the Dade County jail on Saturday.

Meanwhile, former NFL wide receiver Michael Irvin remains on the air today. Irvin has been accused of raping a woman three years ago. She filed a civil lawsuit against him on Thursday. He has not been charged with a crime.

Irvin's lawyer has denied the allegations. And Irvin filed a $100 million counter suit against the woman. He was fired from his ESPN radio affiliate job on Friday.

Sapp is a former University of Miami defensive standout played in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders.

He was previously arrested for possession of marijuana in 1997. However, a judge ruled that police didn't have enough evidence to conduct a search of his car without a warrant.

Sapp works for Showtime's "Inside the NFL" program and NFL Network.

Sapp was recently selected to the NFL's all-decade team for the 2000's. He posted 96 1/2 career sacks and was selected to seven Pro Bowls. He was also selected to the NFL's 1990s all-decade team.

What gives? Famous celebreties/sport figures/politisions, etc, etc, etc, seen to be able to get away with murder, domestic abuse, breaking and entering, assualts, drugs, and on and on, because of thier status in society, where as the normal john or jane, gets the whole book thrown at us for the littlest things. What the hell is the deal, if i was to steal a loaf of bread to feed myself or family, or I accidently slap my wife, I go to jail. Warren Sapp will probably get off with a slap on the wrist and a small fine or settle with the lady, why cause of money and status!!
