USC coach Pete Carroll is on the verge of formally becoming the Seattle Seahawks coach as final details were being hammered out for a five-year, $35 million contract, according to the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Daily News.

According to the Daily News, Carroll has accepted the job and has yet to sign his deal.

According to the Daily News, Oregon State coach Mike Riley is the top choice to replace Carroll. Other candidates mentioned include Jack Del Rio, Jeff Fisher and Jim Harbaugh, per the report.

The Times is reporting that Carroll is about to take the job as president and head coach after interviewing with Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke in Los Angeles earlier this week.

Carroll has previously coached in the NFL with the New York Jets and the New England Patriots.

"Pete's name comes out at this time every year," USC sports information director Tim Tessalone told the Times. "In the past, he hasn't commented on such reports. He was not expected in today. I've put a message out to him, but haven't heard back yet. At this point, we have nothing to report. Perhaps check with the Seahawks."
