Apparently tired of Santonio Holmes' history of off-field problems, the Pittsburgh Steelers have traded the wide receiver to the New York Jets, according to Pro Football Talk.
Sports Illustrated, ESPN and several New York area outlets are also reporting that Holmes is now a Jet.
According to Newsday, the Jets sent a fifth-round draft pick to the Steelers in exchange for the former Super Bowl MVP.
Holmes is being investigated by Orlando, Fla. police for allegedly throwing a drink at a woman, allegedly causing a laceration near her eye.
She has also filed a civil lawsuit against him. His lawyer has denied any wrongdoing on Holmes' part and a witness has sworn that he threw the drink.
According to PFT, Holmes is also facing an unrelated four-game suspension from the NFL for violating the substance-abuse policy.
Holmes has been accused of domestic violence in the past, but that charge was thrown out.
He has also had a possession of marijuana charge against him since he joined the Steelers.
Now, he's reportedly joining the Jets.
With the Steelers moving Holmes, it makes one wonder what the organization's stance will be on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger going forward.
Roethlisberger isn't expected to be charged with sexual assault with a formal announcement coming Monday afternoon.
In all likelihood, Holmes will be the only Steeler to be shipped out of town. It does send a message through the locker room, though.
Steelers management will only tolerate so much for so long.
"Santonio Holmes, who just turned 26, for the 151st pick in the draft," Peter King wrote on his Twitter account. "I'll tell you what this is: A shot across the bow to Big Ben."
I tend to agree.
The image-conscious Steelers' patience is at an end. The comparisons of late to the Cincinnati Bengals have definitely grated on the Steelers and their proud fan base.

Wow, what a drop for Santonio....from being Super Bowl MVP to being Jetisoned for a 5th round pick in a little over 1 year? Props to the Steelers for sending a message about the off-the-field stuff, but I'm surprised a 5th is all they could get.
Burress and Porter paved the way for the Roony's to show what happens to knuckleheads when they get into trouble in Pittsburgh. The writing was on the wall when the suspension was rumored, and his quick departure is a flat out indication that the suspension will take place. And ya, it was a shot over the bow of Big Ben.
As a Steeler fan, I am sickened that they could not or did not try to get more, but they run one of the cleanest clubs in the NFL, sometimes, no matter the cost. The biggest problems at WR now will be, how much does Hines have left, Wallace ready to be a 2 and who will be their 3rd.
Hines 2 more years
Wallace will be fine, but can he be a 1 soon?
Guessing if Sweed can not pull his head out, which I doubt, that Randle El, will be the third.
Best thing is, might be reading speculation of T. O. coming to town, but I can say with 110% assuredness, that will never happen.
This is another great move that adds to the big list of players we got this year. I am a die hard JETS fan and happy to see my team go out and get great players at any cost. Our team is built to go to the super bowl this year. All we need is a safety and watch Mike T trade up higher in the first round to grab berry or another great saftey. Its our time to shine JET fans.2010 is our year to lift that trophy babe. J E T S JETS JETS JETS
The Rooneys are the biggest enablers in the NFL, that's why we laugh at them and their fans!
The 151st pick already belongs to the Steelers, and the Jets don't have a fifth round pick... they've already traded that pick (160th) to Cleveland as part of the Braylon Edwards deal. I hope the Steelers didn't settle for a 2011 fifth rounder.
What does this do for NY? The guy is a problem child. He's in the last year of his contract. He's got a 4-game suspension under the NFL substance abuse program. He's facing criminal charges for assaulting a woman. Is all that really worth a 5th round pick?
The Steelers will be declared the winnahs in this one.
THAT SUCKS....I REALLY LOVED THAT GUY AS A RECEIVER.....DAMMIT WITH HINES GETTING OLDER WALLACE HAS GOT TO REALLY STEP UP. I WANT ANOTHER SUPERBOWL! I A MESSAGE DOES HAS TO BE SENT THOUGH, GET IT TOGETHER BIG BEN!
Suddenly, all the mindless Jets fans are coming out of the woodwork, like cockroaches scurrying in the daylight, proclaiming what a wonderful deal the Jests just struck. I guess its those same Jests fans who thought they actually belonged in the playoffs last year. Get your heads out of the smog and open your eyes, New Yorkers. Yes, Santonio is a talented receiver and I am upset that he is no longer a Steeler. (That's right, a Steeler. You know, the team with 6, count-em, 6 Lombardi trophies. How many do the Jests have? So, instead of screaming about this wonderful deal and how you gals are built to win a Super Bowl, how about opening your traps AFTER you actually win one.)
Santonio's ROI (return-on-investment) was becoming increasingly more difficult to manage. The Steeler front office made a decision which they feel is best for the team; not ONE OF US is privy to the information they used in making this decision. Of course, they will be criticized for the compensation they received for a former Super Bowl MVP and first-round draft choice, but, only time will tell. For me, I'm elated that this distraction is no longer on the Steelers and is now on my least-favorite team, the Jests. (In another year or so, don't be surprised if they sign Plexiglass to a billion dollar contract)
What a wonderful subplot this will be for the upcoming season when the Jests come to Heinz field. Nothing will be more beautiful than seeing the Steelers whip the hapless "other team in NJ" and prevent THEM from entering the playoffs.............
Football is coming....bring it on!
idk why they traded him but it wasn't a good idea. I know he did bad this but they didn't have to go that far.
idk why they traded him but it wasn't a good idea. I know he did bad this but they didn't have to go that far. They wont win the superbowl without him and if they are thinking about trading ben then that will just do it.
