Back in New York Jets' star cornerback Darrelle Revis' hometown of Aliquippa, Pa., they guard his privacy with pride.

And they also have strong opinions about his unresolved contract dispute with the Jets.

That inludes Revis' grandmother, Aileen Gibert.

She's tired of seeing her grandson have to wait to get a big-time contract.

"Darrelle does what he does because he loves it," Gibert told ESPN New York. "For this to be happening to him, it's almost like a slap in the face, because he's not appreciated. ..I know he wants to play, but Darrelle understands contract negotiations. Some players don't get it, but Darrelle can read a contract.

"I think he's comfortable with his decision [to hold out] because he knows what he was told by the Jets and he knows what he's worth. People are trying to portray him as greedy, but he has outperformed his contract. For them to put him in this position is just unreal."

Will Revis remain on his secluded island and sit out the season like his uncle, Sean Gilbert, once did with the Washington Redskins?

"If he does, it won't be because of Sean," Gilbert said. "It'll be because the Jets don't give him a decent contract."

Stay out Revis..... don't take a nickel less than that CB in Oakland.... and if they don't give it to you, retire.

Yeah Granny might want a new fur coat but this situation really shows why the NFL needs a new labor agreement . Either you are under contract or you aren't .

You signed a contract Derrelle, deal with it. If you want to whine about it fine, but you should honor it. And if you get a new contract then the NYJ should be able to reduce it by whatever they feel neccessary when your production falls off becuase of the gauranteed money and you get lazy.

My Mom says I'm underpaid. How do I communicate that to my boss?

go ahead revis.. hold out..

"This is Capt Ryan speaking: We're flying at 12,000 ft optimism, but it looks like were going to have to detour around Revis island this year so we'll probably have to drop a few thousand feet and miss our ultimate destination of the SuperBowl this year."

When will the silly rhetoric about out performing his contract end? The Jets were willing to give him a large increase but not to treat him as a free agent. The greed is when he demands a free agent type contract in the middle of a six year deal. Bottom line, if he sits out the year, he'll never recover the money he would have made this year.
