Jets coach had lap-band procedure, already losing weight Aaron Wilson
Rex Ryan was concerned about his health.
That was the primary impetus behind his recent lap-band surgery, a medical procedure intended to help the beefy New York Jets coach lose weight.
Ryan told the New York Daily News and other New York outlets that he's down to 317 pounds after weighing 348 pounds at the end of the season.
Ryan, who checked into New York University under the assumed name of Roy Rogers, said his goal is to get down to 250 pounds.
"I want to be around," Ryan told reporters. "I want to enjoy my kids. I want to see grandkids," Ryan said. "I don't need to get diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems. I'm trying to avoid all of it."
The way the procedure works the stomach gets full faster, decreasing food intake.
"Because my stomach is going to be probably one-tenth its size, I'm going to have to chew my food like crazy," Ryan said. "There's ways of cheating the thing, but I don't plan on doing it. It's still going to take some kind of discipline to get it done."
Ryan emphasized that he had the surgery for his family, not for his appearance.
"I've got everything right now," Ryan said. "This is unbelievable Everything that I've ever wanted in my life - got a great family, a healthy family. I'm making more money coaching than I ever thought I would ever make in my life. So financially this is it. I'm doing exactly what I want to go, which is coaching in the NFL.
"And I'm a head coach in the NFL, so I'm at the very top of my profession and loving it. I've got a great team. I love the guys on our football team. I look at it as my team, it's our team. I've got everything. .. If you don't have your health, you have nothing."

Hey Rex, here's a novel idea. Instead of getting some surgery to lose weight how about changing your eating habits and working out. Stop cramming pastrami sandwiches from Katzs deli in you cakehole and eat right.
