I don't have the current numbers in front of me, but something like 1/3 of the people in the US are overweight and a significant fraction of that are obese. All of them want to lose weight. Very few of them are successful. If it were as simple as you say, everyone would do it. Please let up and have a little understanding for those who are not as perfect as you are.

Yeah, and smokers shouldn't smoke, and drinkers shouldn't drink, and drug addicts shouldn't do that, and we should all floss more. People should live flawless lives like the robots they are rather than have human weaknesses. Why don't they do that?

People make mistakes. People should make better choices. But let's not just blame the victim with self-righteous indignation. To do so let's a food industry based on the flavor triggers - fats and sugars - and which cares for little else besides the bottom line off the hook.

Consider this: the poorest people in this country suffer the most from obesity. That's at odds with every other country in the world.

That said, there's got to be a better way to deal with Rex's problem than for him to have a radical surgery. But people often choose the easy way out when the harder path of prevention just seems to get in the way of their profession. I feel for the guy and I hope he gets through this.
