New York Jets veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez isn't being placed on injured reserve due to a bruised shoulder.
"He 100 percent will be on the active roster," Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters today. "Mark is doing as good a job as he can, rehabbing his injury."
Sanchez got hurt during the end of a preseason game.
The Jets made it official, announcing that rookie Geno Smith is the starter.
"I think our whole team is confident in Geno," Ryan said. "He's ready to go."
Ryan didn't commit to whether Smith is the starter beyond the opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leaving the organization some wiggle room if he falters.
"Any long-term plan, we're not thinking about," Ryan said.
