Rex: Still not Tebow Time for Jets just yet

The New York Jets endured a disastrous 30-9 loss at home to the Miami Dolphins, but Coach Rex Ryan says he will stick with Mark Sanchez at quarterback, rather than go with Tim Tebow.

“I believe in Mark,” Ryan told the New York Post. “I think Mark has proven he can win in this league. I think he gives us our best chance to win. That’s my opinion and that’s the one that matters.”

Ryan's opinion may be the only one that matters, but Sanchez's sagging performance has to have him on a short leash as the Jets are now 3-5 and spiraling out of contention.

Even though Tebow is certainly unpolished as a quarterback, the drive and competitive spirit he showed in helping to revive the Denver Broncos last year, is probably Ryan's last trump card to try and play to save the Jets season.

Sanchez had a fumble and an interception in the loss, and if he continues to play poorly, Ryan might not have a choice but to replace him with Tebow, whose name was being chanted Sunday by frustrated fans wanting the coach to switch quarterbacks.

“There’s nothing I can do about it,” Sanchez said. “You’re playing in a big market, and this is a grown man’s game. … They want results and we’re not playing well, so they’re going to call for someone else. It doesn’t matter.”
