The Seattle Seahawks have struck a four-year, $57.4 million contract extension with star cornerback Richard Sherman that includes $40 million guaranteed.
Sherman announced the deal on his website.
He's now the highest paid cornerback in the NFL.
"I am blessed to announce that the Seattle Seahawks and I have reached an agreement on a contract extension," Sherman wrote. "The goal has always been to stay in Seattle and continue to play for the Seahawks. With this chapter closed, I can continue to focus on what is important – defending our Super Bowl Championship and being the best cornerback in the NFL. This is a great moment for my family, foundations and the people who supported me to this point. Hard work and execution got me to this moment, the Seattle Seahawks have backed up that respect with this contract.
"The terms of my deal are 4 years for a total of $57.4M with $40M guaranteed. There is no other city or team that I would want to play football for. Greatness is realized from countless hours of work, studying, practice, sacrifice and courage. This is just the beginning and I will continue to set the bar higher and higher on and off the field. Much appreciation to the Seattle Seahawks franchise, the coaches, teammates, friends, the fans, my family and the 12s. The support does not go unnoticed and I carry that into each snap. From Compton to Stanford, 5th round draft pick to winning the Super Bowl – dare to be great. You get out what you put in!"
The Seahawks have called a press conference for today.
Sherman has emerged as one of the top defensive players in the league in recent years, developing into a shutdown cornerback.
He's also one of the most outspoken players in the NFL.
Now, he's one of the richest.
