It can either be considered a blessing or a curse.
Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman won a fan vote and will be on the cover of this year's Madden '15 video game. That's certainly something kids dream of growing up.
The bad news: If you're superstitious, Sherman will be the latest NFL star to become cursed for appearing on the cover of the video game. Last year, retired running back Barry Sanders appeared on the game's 25th edition. Before that Lions receiver Calvin Johnson was on the cover and wound up having a career season.
Garrison Hearst broke his ankle after getting the cover in 1999. Daunte Culpepper and Marshall Faulk saw their careers decline rapidly after becoming cover boys. Donovan McNabb tore his ACL after being on it. Vince Young and Brett Favre put in sub-par years in their cover seasons. The same for Drew Brees and Peyton Hillis.
With the long track record, you have to almost think Cam Newton is relieved he's not on this year's Madden '15 cover.
