Actor Rob Lowe may have joined the world of sports journalism by throwing out a tweet saying Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will retire from pro football.

Lowe apparently is friends with Colts owner Jim Irsay, and who knows if the statement has any validity. But if it does, it will be pretty amusing to think that someone from the outside like Lowe could have beaten the plugged-in Adam Schefters, Peter Kings et al of the world to the punch on what would be the biggest off-field NFL story of the year.

Manning, of course, missed all of last season after undergoing his third neck surgery in 19 months. His future, at least with the Colts, is up in the air with a $28 million roster bonus due in March.
