Suspended for taking a banned substance when he used a fertility drug, Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl pass rusher Robert Mathis acknowledged that he should have checked with the league first before taking Clomid.

Mathis has been suspended for four games.

"It's been a long process," Mathis told reporters. "It kind of ran its course and all I could do is accept it."

Mathis led the NFL last season with 19.5 sacks.

His message to teammates: "Sorry and I'll be back."

Mathis said he'll come back strong from this setback.

"Even more motivation," Mathis said. "I know how hard the team works and I know how hard I work personally. Being motivated is not an issue. I just can't wait to get back."
