Rodger Saffold realizes he got pretty lucky when it comes to neck injuries.

The St. Louis Rams left tackle was taken to a Detroit hospital after an awkward collision with Lions defensive lineman Sammie Hill in Sunday’s opener at Ford Field. Ultimately, doctors determined Saffold suffered only a strained neck.

While Safford will not play Sunday against the Washington Redskins at the Edward Jones Dome, he’s not expected to be out too long. He was limited in practice on Wednesday.

Right now, we're taking it day to day," Saffold said, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I'm getting movement back, more and more every day. The pain is getting less every day. I've really been putting a lot of work into using all of my off time to getting ready.

"I definitely thank everybody for their prayers and their thoughts. I'm just glad to be out here walking. It's a blessing to be able to be on the field with the guys."

The Rams will use newly acquired Wayne Hunter at left tackle on Sunday.
