Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger acknowledged today that he was hurt by wide receiver Hines Ward questioning his toughness after he didn't play with a concussion against the Baltimore Ravens.

Roethlisberger said that he and Ward have cleared up their differences.

"He reached out to me and I told him I was just hurt more than anything else," Roethlisberger said. "You know, we got over it, moved past it and now we're preparing."

Ward has apologized to Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger said he was shocked by Steelers coach Mike Tomlin tellig him that he wasn't going to play. In retrospect, now he agrees with the decision.

"Respected what they said," Roethlisberger said. "You do have to think about your future and your family. It's not fun, but you can get knee replacement surgery, you can have rotator cuff surgeries, but you can't get a new brain."

Roethlisberger brought up his motorcycle accident where he suffered a concussion as well as a broken jaw that required five plates to remain in his head to aid the healing process.

"A lot of people forget the accident that I had," Roethlisberger said. "They remembered that. It was life-threatening."

Roethlisberger reiterated that he feels ready to play this week.

"I feel great," he said. "I'm ready to go, ready to rock and roll."

I wonder if he actually is ready, also if he even knows about Andre Waters and Marshall Goldberg. It seems like most sports writers, NFL players and staff do not.

I'm still confused when the NFL decided it had to be a concussion free sport and why it's methods are so in the spotlight.

Boxing is still a sport in the United States, right? With millions of dollars in entertainment revenue?

Isn't the whole point of boxing to basically concuss your opponent until he can't fight any more? Somehow this is still an acceptable sport to Americans yet players covering up or lying about head injuries so they can play, keep their roster spots, and make millions is now the biggest news story in sports (besides Tiger)???

I'm not trying to discredit the idea the league should continue to study the head injuries, improve diagnosis and equipment and take concussions seriously. But this whole issue reaks of political correctness and hypocrisy.

This is a collision sport. Often equivalent to having a car accident every week on your body. We've know this for years. And we will never make football players post-career health records equivalent to the population as a whole because of this fact.

There is only one way to stop concussions and that's not play football. Or make tackle football touch or flag football with no pads/helmets. There really isn't any other solution. It's like saying stop concussion in boxing. It just can't happen with the way the game is designed.
