While Coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith twist in the wind regarding their fate with the San Diego Chargers, a new name has emerged in the rumor mill.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, who has been comfortable in his role as an analyst for CBS since retiring, is rumored to be on the radar of the Chargers, who were eliminated from playoff consideration with a blowout loss in Detroit Saturday.
Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post said a source in San Diego tells him that Cowher has already had an interview with Chargers management.
However, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, who has been plugged in to nearly everything Chargers for years, says that rumor is not true.
In an interesting twist, former Titans coach Jeff Fisher was on the sideline in Saturday's game as his son, Brandon, is on Jim Schwartz's Lions' staff. Fisher's name has been tossed about with regards to the Chargers job. According to what sources tell National Football Post, Fisher's interest in the Chargers will likely be tied to the fate of both Turner and Smith in San Diego.
Whatever the situation, things don't look for Turner and not rosy for Smith either.
