After spending the first seven years of his NFL career with the Saints, last week it looked as if running back Pierre Thomas was headed for a fresh start in a new city. But on the second day of free agency, Thomas wound up inking a deal with the team that gave him his start back in 2007.
Per agent Lamont Smith, Thomas has re-worked his contract with the Saints, agreeing to terms on a two-year extension.
It was previously thought that Thomas would be released in order to free up some cap space for the Saints. Under his previous contract, which had one year remaining, Thomas was set to earn $2.9 million in salary and bonuses and was due a $300,000 roster bonus on March 25.
The 29-year-old from Illinois is coming off one of the most productive seasons of his seven-year career that featured a career-high 147 rushing attempts, 77 receptions and 513 receiving yards.
