Remember back in February 2011 when a big deal was made about Sean Payton buying a house in suburban Dallas to move his wife and two children to – a heck of a commute from New Orleans?
Maybe it is related to this latest development and maybe it isn’t. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Payton and his wife Beth are getting a divorce. Payton filed for divorce on June 14 in Tarrant County, Texas, citing grounds for divorce as “discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.”
Payton will certainly have time this season to bring his marriage, which would have stood at 20 years later this month, to a conclusion. He has been suspended for the entire season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for his role in the Saints bounty scandal.
Per the report, Beth Payton filed a counter-petition June 26 in which she asked to be custodian for the children, among other things.
The Saints did not respond to the news story.
