Saints getting rid of veterans Patrick Ramsey, Bobby McCray

The New Orleans Saints are getting rid of at least two veterans at final cutdowns.

The team has chosen to release quarterback Patrick Ramsey, who starred in college at nearby Tulane, electing to make former Missouri standout Chase Daniel the backup to Drew Brees.

The Saints will also cut veteran defensive end Bobby McCray for the second time this year. They bounced him in the spring to avoid paying him a roster bonus. Now, they apparently don’t want his contract guaranteed for the season as a vested veteran. The departure of McCray solidifies Alex Brown’s position as the starting left and opposite Will Smith and could benefit rookie Junior Galette.

One question that arises is whether or not Ramsey will now land with the New York Giants? They could be actively seeking a veteran to have in place behind Eli Manning. Maybe that will be a match.
