On Wednesday, free agent safety Darren Sharper said he wasn’t feeling the love from the New Orleans Saints in regards to a new contract.

On Friday, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis made it clear that any issues slowing down the negotiating process aren’t due to a lack of love.

“Listen, I’ve got all the love in the world for Darren Sharper,” said Loomis via Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “I just don’t have all the money in the world for Darren Shaper.”

Nice.

The 13-year veteran safety became an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but hasn’t drawn a lot of interest on the open market. The Saints have made it clear they’re interested in bringing Shaper back to New Orleans for the 2010 season, but aren’t gong to break the bank for a guy who turns 35-years-old in November.

Shaper is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in which he intercepted nine passes and scored thee touchdowns for the Super Bowl champion Saints. The safety also brought experience and leadership to a defense that gave up 3.3 points less per game and forced 17 more turnovers in 2009 than they did in 2008.

That's nice. Me thinks they'll try T.J. at RT during training camp a bit and draft a suitable guy to play behind Cliff for a couple of years.
