With New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton in Arlington, Texas, for Super Bowl XLV this week, rumors got going.
And they really started spinning Sunday when the word circulating in various corners of what’s known as the World Wide Web had Payton leaving the Saints to become the general manager for the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, Payton previously worked for the Cowboys.
No, the rumor isn’t true. To give you an indication of how fast and furious chatter became, the Saints decided they needed to release a statement on the matter.
“Coach Payton is the Saints Head Coach,” the team said in a release, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “He is not going to the Dallas Cowboys in any capacity.”
Typically, NFL teams will ignore rumors and feel that the best way to make them go away is ignore them. By shooting them down, they almost lend credence to the gossip. This gossip, though, is unfounded.
